The Roamin’ Catholics are a band you wouldn't have heard of unless you were at one of seven moderately attended shows in Sydney circa 2014.
Luckily the members of this band have quite a resume, an Australian underground supergroup starring Lincoln Brown (Ghastly Spats, Housewives), Ela Stiles (The Rangoons, Songs, Bushwalking), Tristan Price (Angie Band, Dry Finish), Luke Palmer (God K, Ingredient) and Liam Kenny (Bitch Prefect, White Man Is Oppressor, Twin Peaks). They also recorded some excellent, awkward, cynical post-punk songs about shitty jobs in bourgeois organic supermarkets and the weariness of life going against the grain, which will be the first vinyl release by Sydney independent record store-cum-label, Repressed Records, released in partnership with Atlanta’s Army Of Bad Luck.
Their overall sound falls somewhere between The Fall, Brisbane’s Kitchens Floor, Raincoats and Half Japanese. Vitriolic rants, duelling guitars and a pulsing rhythm section with a guest appearance from punk’s least utilised instruments, the flute. Available January 31, 2017 from great record stores in both hemispheres
